SAS Direct acquired by SIG plc

SIG plc, a FTSE-250 leading European specialist supplier to the construction, building and industrial markets, has acquired SAS Direct & Partitioning Ltd (SAS Direct), an interiors distributor operating in the mid to high-tier partitioning sectors in the UK and Ireland.

Paul Gordon, SIG Distribution's managing director, said: "SAS Direct will further enhance the SIG Interiors business by extending our portfolio to include a very strong product and service proposition for the commercial interiors sector, supported by a specialist, design-led technical team and a range of partitioning systems particularly suited to the London technical specification markets."

Todd Altman, chief executive of SAS International, said: "The sale of SAS Direct to SIG plc allows SAS International to focus on the design, manufacture and supply of our range of metal ceilings and architectural metal work systems. SIG plc will also continue to purchase partitioning components and doors from our excellent manufacturing facility in Birmingham."

Paul Marshall, general manager of SAS Direct, said: "SAS Direct's strength lies with the design, supply and distribution of partitioning systems, doors, aluminium trims, ceiling tiles and grid. We deliver specialist solutions, offering significant design and installation support to contractors via our technical team and in-house bespoke glass installation team."

Founded in 1957 in Sheffield, UK, SIG has grown from a single site insulation distribution business into a multi-national specialist distribution business.

Now operating from more than 300 branches across the UK and Ireland, SIG supplies specialist materials to the construction industry. It was first listed on the London Stock Exchange in May 1989 and is now a FTSE-250 company with a turnover of over £2.6bn, over 9,000 employees and 700 locations across Europe.

SAS Direct, previously owned by SAS International, was established in 2010 to bring SAS International products direct to contractors from four depots in Leeds, Burgess Hill, Birmingham and Reading.
