To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, Jewson has announced the shortlist for its Young Tradesperson of the Year competition. The award recognises the talent of full and part-time construction professionals and apprentices under the age of 30.

From nearly 150 entries, five finalists have been selected; Martin Daly and Grant Gibson from Glasgow, Callum Millington from Warrington, Carly Doolan from Newcastle and Jon Wynne from Stockport.

A panel of industry experts featuring Andy Barrie from online builders community ‘On The Tools’, Liz Male, chair of quality assurer TrustMark, journalist Fiona Russell-Horne and Donna Rostovsky from Osma will now select a winner. As well as the title of Young Tradesperson of the Year, the winner will receive a holiday to Barcelona plus tickets for a football match at Camp Nou and £1,000 worth of tools.

David Fenton, marketing director at Jewson, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the calibre of entries, which really show the enthusiasm and talent of young construction tradespeople. The success proves what we’ve known all along; there is some remarkable skill and passion in the industry and selecting a winner won’t be easy.”
