Parker Building Supplies' marketing manager Jamie Pierce joined 38,000 other intrepid athletes on Sunday 24 April to run the London Marathon for charity.

Mr Pierce ran from Blackheath in South London to the finish line on Westminster Bridge, travelling the 26.2 mile route of the 36th annual Virgin Money London Marathon.

He was inspired to raise money for two charities - the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. While training for the marathon, Mr Pierce undertook a punishing regime of practice runs, regular gym visits and a healthy, alcohol-free diet.

Despite occasionally wondering what he'd let himself in for, Mr Pierce finished his first ever marathon in 4 hours, 25 minutes, and has to date raised in excess of £2,500 for the two beneficiaries.

"A big thank you to everyone who donated, and also a big shout to everyone who came out to support me," he said after completing the marathon.
