Subcontractors, material suppliers and construction industry consultants from the East of Scotland are being invited to a free Meet the Buyer event run by Constructionline on 19 May to find out about upcoming work in the area.

The event, to be held at Macdonald Houstoun House Hotel in Livingston, will allow small businesses in the area to meet with a range of potential clients and discuss work opportunities on local projects.

Public sector exhibitors confirmed for the event include representatives from Midlothian Council who will be on hand to discuss projects, including a contaminated land framework, an internal fit-out of the Eskdail Court offices, gas audit services on domestic and non-domestic properties, as well as various repair works.

The Scottish government and the Supplier Development Programme, which aids public sector procurement, will also be exhibiting.

In addition, Almond Housing Association is looking to meet local contractors to showcase its roster of work improvements planned for the next 18 months, comprising a £200k contract to replace external entrance doors, in addition to boiler replacements totalling £200k, and £130k-worth of external roughcast work.

Stewart Fisher, capital projects surveyor at Almond Housing Association, said: “We are looking forward to meeting local SMEs face-to-face and finding the best talent in the region to help us to carry out our planned works throughout this year and next.”

Other attendees include regional and national contractors and developers such as construction, maintenance and refurbishment specialist, Clark Contracts; Hadden Construction; independent housebuilder, Stewart Milne Group; and asset management business, Turner FM.

Visitors will also be able to attend seminar sessions held by industry leaders from Turner FM, Hadden Construction and the Supplier Development Programme, who will give specific project background on their supply chains and advice on winning work.

Stephanie Lawrie, client relationship manager at Constructionline, added: “Our Meet the Buyer events are designed to bring local subcontractors in front of key decision makers from top buyers in the region, helping them understand the selection criteria and navigate the tender process.

“With a robust stream of work available in Scotland at the moment, this is a great opportunity for subcontractors in the area to hear about opportunities they might not have otherwise had access to and build a broader supply chain in the process.”

The free event will run from 8.30am until 2pm. Suppliers do not have to be a Constructionline member to attend.
