Aurora Lighting has carried out a complete front and back of house lighting retrofit for Gibbs & Dandy Luton, part of the Saint-Gobain group, resulting in a reduced number of fittings and equipment, and increased annual energy savings of almost £20,000.

For the lighting refit of Gibbs & Dandy Luton’s offices, retail, showroom, outdoor and warehousing space, Aurora proposed and implemented a new scheme that not only provided good working conditions across all areas of the estate, but one that also reduced energy costs and provided a more comfortable and enjoyable customer experience.

Aurora carried out a full project design and specification assessment in October 2016, with installation commencing in December and completion at the beginning of February 2017.

During initial site visits, Aurora identified a number of issues with the existing design and products across most of the application areas. Observations included over-design and high fitting numbers, low levels of illumination in industrial and retail areas, as well as large spaces where light was unnecessarily on for long periods.

Following all observations and after presenting a report on the findings, Aurora produced a project proposal that would see energy savings significantly increased.

“Through our approved electrical contractors, design team and Aurora’s project management team we were able to design our microwave sensors into the luminaires meaning that each aisle is now only controlled and used when required,” said Stephen Hurrell, Managing Director of UK Projects – Aurora.

Aurora’s calculations revealed that with the new proposal, Gibbs & Dandy will achieve energy savings of 16,000 kWh per month, equivalent to an average cost saving of £19,200 annually, not including the impact of the microwave sensors.

Mark Gentle, project manager for Saint-Gobain spoke highly of the success of the project noting that: “The overall look and feel of the site has been vastly improved from the lighting project along with the numbers we are saving through the energy and the reduction in yearly or monthly energy bills has been fantastic”.
