The Who frontman Roger Daltrey CBE has sent a good luck message to a team from SR Timber as they embark on a charity fundraising car rally to Monte Carlo.
Shaun Revill and Jason Lumley are taking part in the Pavestone Rally this September to raise as much money as possible for two charities – including the Teenage Cancer Trust, of which Mr Daltrey is a longstanding patron. He has been the driving force behind the trust's Royal Albert Hall concerts since they began in 1990.
When the singer heard that the duo were on a mission to raise as much money as possible for his beloved charity, he sent them the following message: "Hi Shaun and Jason, thanks so much for fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust. It sounds like you'll have a lot of laughs, much better fun than running a marathon! Be lucky and safe travels. Roger."
The message left Shaun and Jason stunned.
"We are gobsmacked that one of the greatest rock 'n' roll legends from one of the best bands ever has got in touch to wish us well for the Pavestone Rally," said Shaun and Jason. "We were already very motivated to beat the total we raised for charity last year, but Roger's message has really spurred us on."
The pair have been set a target of raising £1,500 for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Rainy Day Trust as part of the entry to the rally, but they believe they will smash that target – especially now they have celebrity backing.
The rally challenges teams to buy a road-legal car for under £500, decorate it and then drive it whilst in fancy dress all the way from the UK to Monaco – via nine other European countries.
