The Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) has completed the Cyber Essentials Certificate, ahead of the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) law on 25 May 2018.

Following guidance by the BMF‘s GDPR and Cyber Audit Plus Service supplier, the BMF was assessed by RDS Global, an accredited IASME Consortium Assessor.

The certificate confirms that the BMF has been assessed as meeting the Cyber Essentials implementation profile, published in February 2017, demonstrating that, at the time of testing, the BMF’s ICT defences are satisfactory against cyber-attack.

BMF Membership and IT Manager Oz Bham said: “We are proud to complete the Cyber Essentials certificate. GDPR is changing the way businesses obtain, store, use and delete data and we are proud to complete this first step, ensuring our data is currently protected against cyber-attack. I urge our members to take the necessary steps towards GDPR compliance, to protect their businesses too.”

RDS Global can provide all BMF members with a free Cyber Risk Assessment, where a series of questions will be completed by the business and RDS will then provide some feedback in regards to the next steps. It will also provide more information on the policies and processes the business needs to have in order to be compliant and avoid any fines following May 2018.
