GERMANY: HeidelbergCement AG has donated 100 000 euros to the Red Cross in support of the relief efforts in Haiti. The donation is dedicated to the construction and operation of a mobile hospital and the delivery of clean drinking water.

"With our donation we'd like to contribute to humanitarian aid efforts on the ground", Dr Bernd Scheifele, chief executive officer of the company, explained.

"We want to help those affected by this devastating earthquake and encourage our employees and partners to assist in any way they can.

“Several decades of experience enable the Red Cross to quickly and efficiently help people affected by catastrophes. The international federation of 186 Red Cross and Red Crescent organisations is co-ordinating the relief efforts on the ground. Recent relief efforts of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent included, among others, the earthquake in Sumatra, Indonesia in October 2009.”
