Three charities are hoping to be the recipients of £500 after being shortlisted in the latest round of NYEs Building Supplies campaign ‘Proud to be Local’.

After receiving nominations for causes across the county, the merchant has announced its shortlisted finalists and is calling out to the public to vote for its favourite. The group with the most votes will win.

Rex Nye, Managing Director at NYEs Building Supplies, said: “We are delighted to receive more exciting nominations for our second round of Proud to be Local 2019. Last time the votes were extremely close, so every vote counts.

“Whether you’re casting your vote by email, Facebook or at our depot, we encourage everyone to take part and help make a difference to one of these very worthy causes.”

The three causes that have been shortlisted this time are:

Supporters of Castlewood School (SOCS), Southwater

Castlewood Primary School in Southwater opened in 1997 and has 210 pupils in Reception to Year 6. SOCS, which supports the school through a variety of fundraising activities, would like to use the funding to help renovate the school’s pond and surrounding area. This includes installing new fencing, benches and paving.

1st Roffey Scout Group

The 1st Roffey Scout Group has been part of the community since 1920 and is the oldest scout group in Horsham. It is made up of 22 volunteers and hosts 122 young people from the surrounding area. It would like to use the funds to renovate its scout hut by installing a new floor in the main hall.

West Sussex Music Trust

As part of its Musical Chairs initiative, West Sussex Music Trust is extending an open invitation to people and businesses across West Sussex to participate in a county-wide game of musical chairs to help equip its young musicians with chairs specifically designed for orchestral use. The trust is hoping to secure a total of 100 chairs at £200 each. The funds will go towards helping to achieve its goal.

Votes can be cast in three simple ways. Either by visiting NYEs Building Supplies depot in Kingsfold along the A24 and posting a token in the relevant voting box, clicking the chosen group on the poll that will be pinned to the top of NYEs Facebook page, or by emailing proudtobelocal@dwnye.co.uk and putting the name of the group being voted for in the subject line (only one email vote per address will be counted).

Voting will close at midnight on Sunday 9th June 2019.
