The Woburn Golf & Country Club provided the perfect backdrop for this year’s NMBS/BMGS Golf Day, as the independent merchant sector came together to network and enjoy a friendly competition in glorious sunshine.

As in previous years, the event was staged in partnership with the Building Materials Golf Society.

More than 100 players from a cross-section of NMBS’ 1,100 independent merchant members and 600+ suppliers turned out for a round of golf at the prestigious golf course in Buckinghamshire.

The 6,983 yard Duke’s Course at Woburn is one of the top 100 golf courses in the country. First opened in 1976, it was the location for the British Masters for 20 years, as well as hosting the Women’s British Open Championship. The Club has an ongoing relationship with World Golf Championship Winner Ian Poulter, who has been its touring professional since 2003.

After a shotgun start, the day’s players enjoyed 18 holes of Woburn’s beautiful tree-lined fairways and challenging greens, before returning to the clubhouse so that the day’s prizes could be awarded.

The 2019 Team Prize was awarded to Peter Fletcher, Jonathan Eyre, John Mason and Mike Cocker, with an impressive score of 86 points.

Russell Owen from Home Building Plastics Limited won the Longest Drive Award, and Nick Walley of BMGS was Nearest the Pin on the day.

Overall first place went to Jonathan Eyre of Polypipe, while Stuart Smith of Gardeners World received second place, and Andrew Meredith of Woodstock P & H Supplies came third.

Sam Hunt, Events Manager at NMBS, said: “The NMBS golf day is always a highlight of the merchant calendar. It is just one of the events that we organise to enable merchants and suppliers to network in a relaxed environment, and this year was no exception. Congratulations to all those who attended on a great round of golf – we’re delighted that so many people were able to join us.”
