Staff from James Burrell Builders Merchants have completed an 11 mile walk to raise £1,600.00 for North East Hearts with Goals, which will fund a community access defibrillator.

The challenge began at Crimdon from where the team walked for over 4 hours along the East Durham coastline to reach Nose’s Point in Seaham.

James Burrell decided to support North East Hearts with Goals after several first aiders within the company realised the importance of community access defibrillators.

Over 100,000 people die in the UK every year from sudden cardiac arrest therefore it is important that there are more defibrillators in public places.

The charity North East Hearts with Goals have already placed over 450 defibrillators throughout the North East since 2013.

Christine Stephenson, Co-Founder at North East Hearts with Goals, stated: “We are incredibly grateful to all of the James Burrell staff and customers for their recent fundraising activities to support North East Hearts with Goals, it’s great to see a local business embrace such a worthy cause.

“When a cardiac arrest occurs your chances of survival reduce by 10% every minute without a defibrillator and CPR and thanks to the amazing efforts of everyone involved in the James Burrell Charity Walk, we are able to provide another area with this life saving piece of equipment.”

The participants to the walk rose over £1600.00 for the charity, breaking their fundraising target by £300.
