City College Southampton students on brickwork and carpentry courses will benefit from a new partnership with local builders merchants, Elliotts.
End-of-line and damaged building materials will be donated to the City College construction departments under the new partnership with Elliotts Builders Merchant in Southampton. Sheet materials, internal doors and bricks have already been received by the college in a first round of donations by the merchant.
Kulwant Gautam, Construction and Professional Build Learning Manager at City College said, “We are very grateful for the donations of timber boards, bricks and doors from Elliotts. Our students have been keen to work with them.
“It was wonderful to be able to show their team around our construction departments so they could see first-hand what an impact their donation had and what work the students were creating.
“We are always keen to create partnerships with local businesses and are also planning industry talks together.”
Emma McTaggart, from Elliotts, added, “It was fantastic to see some of the students working with the doors and bricks that otherwise would have gone to landfill.”
Elliotts, based at Millbank Wharf in Northam, will also be sponsoring three awards for brickwork students at the City College Awards Evening on November 6th.
“We’ve been helping the South build since 1842 so it’s important to us that we also build local, meaningful partnerships”, said Dan Coombes, Assistant Branch Manager at the Southampton Branch.
“We’re excited to develop our relationship with the college and their students further.”
