SCA Timber Supply is planning a £5m wood-planing mill in East Yorkshire as part of plans to double the size of its operations in the UK.

SCA Timber currently operates from two sites in Stoke-on-Trent and one in Welshpool.

Neil Emsley, managing director, said: "Hull is the UK port into which we bring in most of our solid-wood products from Sweden. We've had an operating base in the area for many years, and our own warehouse on the King George Dock since 2005. Basing one of our wood-refining operations close to our port of entry for timber makes business sense."

SCA's new mill, due to be operational next year if planning succeeds, will produce wood products for builders' merchants. SCA Timber also has a new deal with Travis Perkins to supply sawn timber products.
