H+H has won the Best Health & Safety in Manufacturing category at The Safety & Health Excellence Awards 2020 for an innovative programme to improve safety in its yards and transportation.
The Safety and Health Excellence Awards, organised in conjunction with the British Safety Industry Federation, received over 200 entries across 10 categories from a wide range of industry sectors. The awards, hosted this year by Alistair McGowan, celebrate the best in safety, health, security and fire practices and initiatives.
H+H faced stiff competition with 8 shortlisted organisations within the Best Health & Safety in Manufacturing category itself.
The H+H safety programme that was marked out for acclaim was introduced by the manufacturer in 2019 and comprises two elements: the first saw a complete reorganisation of the company's Pollington Yard. This reorganisation includes the introducion of a strict one-way system with re-designed access routes and updated signage.
The second element focuses specifically on eliminating any instance of working from height – which meant instituting an entirely mechanical loading and unloading process to stop people having to climb onto the back of lorries.
Jenny Smith-Andrews, Head of Marketing of H+H UK, reacted to the company's recognition: “H+H UK winning this award is testament to the forward-thinking and dedicated team we have here. Their tireless efforts to ensure that all of our staff in our Yards can complete their work in a healthy and safe environment has been deservedly recognised.”
