Tarmac has appointment Steve Pugh as Technical Services Manager.

Pugh will be responsible for product support and advising its bulk customers on areas such as product data and performance.

A concrete technologist, Pugh rejoins Tarmac after first working for the company between 2007 and 2013 in a variety of roles including Technician, Product Co-ordinator and Technical Sales Co-ordinator.

He has since worked in specialist roles covering chemical admixtures, where he was able to extend his knowledge of precast, mortar, screeds and CBP, and cement, before returning to Tarmac.

Pugh will be applying his background in concrete admixtures and mix designs to support customers using Tarmac’s National Laboratory in Staffordshire, which is equipped with the latest analytical techniques including X-Ray Fluorescence, UV spectrometry, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and conventional wet chemistry. The ‘Natlab’ works closely with customers to conduct trial mixes and recreate mixes if they do not have their own facilities to do.

Pugh said: “I’ve worked in many different sectors across the industry and I’m looking forward to bringing this experience and expertise back to Tarmac to help support our customers on technical product queries.

“It’s easy for customers to become blinkered from, or even daunted by, new technology, methods and materials, but I can use first-hand experience to advise how they might be able to improve how they are working. Likewise, if a customer is experiencing any issues, it’s likely that I’ve come across something similar and can apply the technical expertise to help understand the cause and remedy it.”
