MKM Building Supplies pledges its support to The Dickie Bird Foundation.

MKM Building Supplies is looking forward to bowling over customers with its new flagship branch in Barnsley.

To celebrate the opening, the UK’s largest independent builders' merchant invited world famous Yorkshire cricketing legend Dickie Bird OBE to officially open its doors at a special launch event earlier this week.

To mark the start of play for the branch and highlight its commitment to the local community, MKM Barnsley is pledging its support to The Dickie Bird Foundation – a charity that is committed to helping youngsters under the age of 16 participate, to the best of their ability, in the sport of their choice, irrespective of the social circumstances, culture or ethnicity.

Bird OBE said: “Sport is a massive part of life in Yorkshire and for many of MKM’s customers. I am therefore delighted this local independent business is supporting the foundation and all the great things we do in the community. Any support we receive that helps us continue to help less privileged young people follow their sporting aspirations is greatly appreciated.”

Heading up MKM Barnsley are co-Branch Directors Mark Winstanley and John Lea. The award-winning duo, who have both been recognised with top industry accolades in the past, have extensive local knowledge of the building trade in Barnsley and the wider area, as well as years of industry experience.

Winstanley said: “Dickie Bird is a sporting legend that has his roots firmly in Barnsley, so having him here to officially open our branch is a huge honour.

“MKM Barnsley is an independent business, so being able to play our part in supporting the local community is vitally important to us. Joining forces with The Dickie Bird Foundation is just one of the ways we are looking to give back and support charities that are close to the hearts of both our staff and our customers.”

Open to both the trade and general public, MKM’s new Barnsley branch, the company’s 85th branch opening across the UK, is conveniently located on a two-acre site on the Peel Trade Park, creating 16 new jobs in the area.

Lea added: “The opening of the branch marks a three-year journey for myself and Mark and one that we are both extremely proud of. From identifying the location on the Peel Trade Park, to seeing this brand-new facility being built, and now officially opening our doors and being able to bring employment into the area has been a fantastic achievement.

“We are now really looking forward to welcoming customers and showing them what MKM is all about and how we can support them.”
