Wolseley UK has announced a new strategic partnership with Workday® that will provide the company with a unified way to manage its personnel data.

Once the project is completed, Wolseley staff will be able to manage their HR information online, from amending personal details to checking benefits, requesting time off, submiting expenses or accessing online learning. Managers will be able to access their teams' information, supporting and developing talent, or recruiting new colleagues all in one place. All employees will be able to access those systems on the go, via a dedicated mobile app.

The partnership with Workday® and its implementation team, Collaborative Solutions, comes following the sale of the 134-year-old business to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice earlier this year.

Simon Oakland, Wolseley CEO, explained why this is such a significant step for Wolseley UK: “Our investment in Workday® is part of a broader strategy of modernising our systems and processes across our business.

“We know that Workday® will provide us with the tools and resources to make life as simple and easy as possible for our operational colleagues by removing complexity and allowing our them to do what they do best, which is serve our customers.”

Jane Connor, Wolseley HR Director, added: “The transition to Workday® is just one of several exciting projects that demonstrates the importance placed by our business on helping to grow, develop, engage, and care for our people, and make Wolseley a truly great place to work for everyone.

“Our goal together is to deliver a simplified and unified people-systems experience for all of our colleagues; to provide a solid foundation to grow our new Wolseley Talent Guild; and to maximise data-driven decision-making, by placing in the hands of our people managers and leaders a wealth of accessible, meaningful information and actionable insights at the point of processes execution.”

John Hancock, Managing Director, Wolseley Building Services & Infrastructure, shares this view and believes this project will see real benefit for the way colleagues at Wolseley can work on a day to day basis: “We know how hard our Branch Managers work, managing people but also multiple systems in branch, that are currently not connected. We really believe that Workday® will make managing our people a much simpler experience in branch, freeing up time for customers and colleague development. Wolseley is built on the skills of our people and Workday® fully supports our ambition to be the employer of choice in trade distribution.”

David Horne, Workday® Regional Director, commented: “Workday® is thrilled to partner with Wolseley for this exciting transformation in a new era of the business’s long and rich history.

“The dedication Wolseley has shown to its customers, managers and employees throughout our time together gives me great confidence in the future success of the partnership. We have high hopes to empower Wolseley’s business with insight and provide employees an easy and engaging platform in this continually changing world. We look forward to the work ahead and will be thrilled to see the results of the teams’ efforts in the very near future.”

Michelle Tomkins, Collaborative Solutions Director, has been enjoying the progress the partnership has made so far, adding: “The strength of partnership between parties was evident from the beginning as we worked extremely hard together to build a solid business case and to understand the requirements of the Wolseley team. We’re delighted to now be actively delivering this project and to ensuring that it meets business and personal objectives during 2021 and into the future.”

The project to implement Workday® at Wolseley is now underway and is expected to be complete in the Autumn.
