In today’s financial climate, it’s a terrific achievement for a family-run company to survive and thrive. When this same company is actually celebrating its 140th anniversary, then the performance is increasingly impressive. This is the reality of the Tudor Griffiths Group, based in Ellesmere in Shropshire.

Tudor Griffiths Group operates a dozen ready mixed concrete plants, two sand and gravel quarries, a sea dredged sand operation, seven builders’ merchant branches, as well as recycling and skip hire facilities.

Group managing director and fifth generation of the Griffiths family, Tudor Griffiths, cheerfully admits that this is a fortunate coincidence: “When we budgeted for the year ahead, and analysed our requirements, it simply happened that we would need to acquire 14 vehicles. Our founder William Griffiths would surely be astonished though by the way we’ve grown, while remaining true to the standards he first set.”

Mr Griffiths confirms that the company still seeks long-term relationships, gains largely from business referrals from current customers, and a dedication to operate in an environmentally friendly way. He said: “If it was a good way to do business five generations ago, it remains the same today and, hopefully, for another 140 years.”
