Independent timber and builders' merchant Ridgeons has been placed 20th in this year's Cambridgeshire Ltd Top 100 2014, compiled by Grant Thornton.

The annual survey analyses the financial performance of Cambridgeshire's 100 largest companies, giving an insight into the achievements of the county's business community.

The report has shown more growth in Cambridgeshire compared to the wider UK economy, with the county's businesses converting profit into cash, and increased employment and investment in fixed assets. These indicators prove that the county's companies are well positioned for further investment in growth opportunities as they arise.

The results were announced to an audience of 160 Cambridgeshire business leaders at a Cambridge Ltd event during which Ian Northen, group finance director at Ridgeons, was invited to sit on a panel of business leaders. The panel discussed the current financial landscape of the county and considered how best to achieve sustainable growth as we enter into 2015.

Mr Northen said: "It's a fantastic achievement to have been ranked within the top 20 companies in Cambridgeshire and to join such a respected group of businesses from a variety of industries. Ridgeons is now one of the largest independent timber and builders' merchants in the UK, achieving an annual multi-million pound turnover of pre-recession trading levels. The business has laid the groundwork for a prosperous 2015."
