Alsford Timber has begun to implement significant upgrades to its commercial fleet.

Eleven new vehicles have been ordered for delivery in 2015, ranging from 12 tonne to 26 tonne GVW trucks.

The 12 tonne trucks mark a significant increase in capacity from the traditional 7.5 tonne vehicle that is currently being used. This increase in capacity reflects on the growth of market share that is being achieved by many of Alsford Timber’s branches.

The company has chosen DAF Trucks as its preferred supplier. All of the vehicles that are supplied to Alsford Timber are designed with the environment in mind, and are said to run the most fuel efficient and low emission engines available.

In order to improve the company’s operations further, these vehicles have been combined with Fassi lorry loader cranes, supplied by Walker Crane Services. According to Alsford Timber, Fassi has exceptional safety features to ensure a safer environment for its staff.

All new vehicles joining the fleet have been carefully inspected and specified by the Alsford logistics team to ensure that they meet and exceed the requirements set by FORS, CLOCS and Cross Rail. Vehicles are fitted with extra mirrors, proximity sensors, CCTV, audible alarms and signage to help improve the safety of other road users.

As Alsford Timber is focused on providing the safest, yet most efficient service possible, all of the company’s driving staff are subject to extra training, which they are assessed upon on a regular basis.

Transport compliance manager, Adam Drury, said: “We are committed to creating a transport and logistics service, which will be unrivalled in our sector of operations. To this end, we have invested heavily in a new fleet, which incorporates all available safety innovations. We are also dedicating a significant amount of time and effort in driver training to ensure the professionalism of our staff matches the quality of our vehicles.”

Alsford Timber will also name the new vehicles in aid of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care. A raffle will run until 23 October, 2015, and is open to all Alsford Timber staff and customers. Every time a new vehicle arrives at the company’s head office, a draw will take place of all the names that have entered into the raffle. The lucky name will be immediately printed onto both doors of one of the new vehicles.
