UK: Smart meters will by top of the energy providers' agenda by the end of 2020.
Plans published last week by Energy and Climate Change Minister Lord Hunt put the case for developing smart grids in the UK.
"Smart meters will put the power in people's hands, enabling us all to control how much energy we use, cut emissions and cut bills," Lord Hunt stated.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change is providing £6m to companies to enable them to continue developing smart technologies, such as electricity storage.
