The Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) is conducting a snap one-minute ‘Market Pulse’ Poll this January to gauge the effect of Brexit on construction and their expectations for sales in 2017.

The BMBI is a monthly index of builders’ merchant sales to builders and contractors, with quarterly reports and commentary from a panel of industry experts explaining market trends.

It is managed by MRA Marketing, using gold standard data from GfK’s Builders’ Merchant Point of Sale Tracking Data, which analyses data from over 80% of generalist builders’ merchants’ sales throughout Great Britain. The BMBI fills a gap in the UK’s measures of building activity, and is a brand of the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF).

Lucia Di Stazio, managing director of MRA Marketing, said: “2016 was an extraordinary year. It was full of surprises and massive political change from a vote for Brexit to the election of Trump, and 2017 is set to be equally surprising. How will it affect construction, or more interestingly, what is the industry expecting its sales to be in 2017?

“We plan to take the pulse of the industry for one month while doing some good for the industry. MRA Marketing will donate £1 to the construction charity CRASH for each person who takes our snap poll. It’s easy and takes just one minute. There are four simple questions and we’ll publish the results on the website.”
