Jewson goes above and beyond the National Living Wage

Jewson has announced plans to increase its employees’ wages ahead of the government’s introduction of the National Living Wage later this year.

The National Living Wage will be brought into effect from 1 April, 2017 and will replace the minimum wage for over 25s. However, Jewson has decided to go beyond the government’s mandatory increase and pay all employees over the age of 21 at least £7.80 per hour, rather than the required £7.50.

Plumbers merchant Graham and other sister companies within the Saint-Gobain group will also be following suit.

Mark Rayfield, chief executive officer at Jewson, said: “A business is only as good as its employees and our colleagues are essential in providing a great service to our customers. It’s essential we recognise and reward the hard work and commitment of all of our employees.

“We also pride ourselves on giving young people the support they need to progress in a construction career, having partnered with Street League, the UK’s sport for employment charity, and developing an apprenticeship programme. It was a no-brainer to extend our wage increase to over 21s too.”
