Chandlers Building Supplies is helping its Petworth branch manager raise money for the Construction Industry Helpline.

Jason Austin, 54, is organising a 42-mile bike ride across Sussex on 18 August, starting at Chandlers' Petworth branch and finishing at its Ringmer head office. A group of Chandlers employees will be joining him on the ride and are appealing for others to join them.

The team of cyclists is currently 35-strong and they are planning to complete the ride in four to five hours.

Last year Austin (pictured) suffered a heart attack and underwent open heart surgery. His recovery has been life changing and the inspiration for this bike ride. He hopes lots of keen cyclists of any ability will join him. He said: “I’d like to share this journey with as many people as possible so please join us, have a fun day, keep your heart healthy and help a great charity!”

There is no entrance fee but participants are asked to raise funds for the Construction Industry Helpline by being sponsored or making a donation. Contact Austin for more information.

All the money raised by the event will go to the charity to provide financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families following an injury or illness.
