LONDON: Nottingham University's H.O.U.S.E (Home Optimising the Use of Solar Energy) timber-based building project won the inaugural TTJ/Timber & Sustainable Building Timber Ecobuild prize.
The zero carbon solar powered home, designed by Nottingham architectural and engineering students, and developed with technical and materials input from Saint-Gobain, featured a closed panel timber frame structure from Pasquill, 'thermowood' radiata pine external cladding and maple handrails from International Timber.
The building is the University's entry in the international Solar Decathlon competition that will be held in Madrid in the summer.
