HIGH WYCOMBE: TRADA has launched a research project to investigate the causes of discolouration of external unfinished timber cladding and to develop strategies for its prevention and remedial treatment.

The project will tap into a variety of sources to gather relevant information, including archive material, consultancy reports and known cases of on-site discolouration. "Particular importance will be given to examples where remedial and preventative solutions have been proposed and implemented in the past," said project leader Peter Kaczmar.

"Through this work, both specifiers and product manufacturers will be better able to meet client needs through improving cladding aesthetics in service and also to improve the public perception of timber cladding. Surface discolouration is often wrongly associated with decay."
