HIGH WYCOMBE: BM TRADA Certification has revised its third-party Q-Mark certification scheme for trussed rafters in the light of three separate legislative developments and, working closely with the Trussed Rafter Association, has extended the scheme to cover open web beams.

CE marking to the revised version of EN 14250 'Timber structures - Product requirements for prefabricated structural members assembled with punched metal plate fasteners' is now available.

Also, the timber structural code BS 5268 has been substantially withdrawn by BSI and will be replaced by Eurocode 5 from 31 March.

Itis almost certain that CE marking will become compulsory in the UK, "possibly in 2011, or more likely 2013", according to BM TRADA's product certification manager, David Payne.

Director of the Trussed Rafter Association Susan Farrow said: "The benefits of CE marking are self-evident and we are pleased that our members will have this option under the Q-Mark scheme."
