SOLIHULL: The Second Battalion Yorkshire Regiment met with a hearty welcome home from Afghanistan last month, as Lafarge and its local merchant customers clubbed together to donate gifts to the returning troops.

Lafarge Cement’s Northern sales team joined up with local branches of Marshalls and Jewsons to donate gift packs to the regiment’s Captain Stephen Hall in a special ceremony on 23 March.

Lafarge Cement’s packed business mananger Chris Hall and area sales manager David Lake have led the initiative, collecting donations from colleagues and customers. Gifts ranged from 20 rugby tickets and a signed rugby shirt, from Lafarge Plasterboard, to a cricket bat from Marshalls of Stonemarket and hats and pens from Jewsons.

Captain Hall, Second Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, said: “We are grateful to Lafarge and the other contributors for their generous donations. The personal sacrifice made by the lads from the Battalion in Afghanistan is immense and a gift of any description goes a long way in showing them that the public supports them.”
