NORTH YORKSHIRE: Jewson is closing its Barry's Lane, Scarborough depot next month blaming the decline in the building industry.

The national merchant will retain a site a few miles away between Brook Street and Northway in the town centre.

The Jewson site in Barry's Lane traded previously as David Kilburn, which changed to Harcros in 1988 before being taken over by Jewson.

Jewson took over the Brook Street site, previously Gabriel Wade, in 1983. Jewson previously had an administrative office in Scarborough but closed this in 1993.

Other construction losses in Scarborough are builders AW Sinclair and Sons which went into administration in September 2009 and Redworth Construction which ceased trading in January this year.
