BRIDGEND: Climate change secretary Chris Huhne yesterday announced that the government's 'Green Deal' strategy is firmly on the agenda, targeting insulation and energy saving, from Whitehall through to the poorest homes.

Hans Schreuder, managing director Rockwool UK said: “We warmly welcome the Government’s Green Deal as a valuable initiative to help up to 14 million households save energy and money through better insulation.

“When it comes to the environment, the amount of energy wasted by poorly insulated buildings is the elephant in the room, with almost half the energy used in the UK going on heating or cooling buildings.

“By our estimation, UK households waste around £2.9 billion on energy bills and pump over 15m tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year through inadequately insulated homes

“Many other EU countries are significantly ahead of the UK when it comes to improving home energy efficiency and the steps outlined by the Government will help address this, cut the UK’s carbon footprint and boost the UK’s building and environmental products industry.”
