SEFTON: Colin Contini with 18 of his work colleagues from Wickes are canoeing the length of the largest lakes in Scotland, England and Wales to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

So far they have raised over £13 000. The group's marathon begins with a 23-mile trip across Loch Lomond in Scotland before heading to the Lake District and 14-miles of Lake Windermere. The final challenge is the four miles on Lake Bala in Wales.

Mr Contini, regional controller for Wickes said: "The idea of this challenge really captured people's imagination and I'm so pleased with how much money we've raised already. Nobody in the group is very good at canoeing and that's an understatement for most of us. But we're happy to get very, very wet in the name of charity."

The Scarisbrick Arms in Halsall is sponsoring the fundraising challenge.
