NOTTINGHAMSHIRE: Three shoplifters were sentenced for their part in a raid on Focus DIY in Moorgate.

Stephen Golubovic, 42, of Morley Road, Scunthorpe, received a 120-day sentence from Retford magistrates after pleading guilty to shoplifting goods of unknown value, but including several power drills, from the store.

Golubovic, who has 51 previous convictions for 157 offences, admitted throwing the goods over the store's perimeter fence on 5 July. This was filmed by a passer-by and reported to police.

Representing Golubovic, David Grant asked magistrates to consider his guilty plea in sentencing. He said Golubovic "would like to say he would bring an end to his disappointing career, but that eventuality is in his hands now".

Golubovic had throw the goods to fellow Scunthorpe resident Trevor Hoyle, 51. He pleaded guilty to the charges when appearing before Retford magistrates earlier. A third Scunthorpe man, Mark Enefer, 38, of Digby Street pleaded guilty to shoplifting and assaulting a police officer and was given 12-month community order and 150 hours unpaid work, as well as being ordered to pay costs of £50 and a further £80 in compensation for the assault.
