BIRMINGHAM: Birmingham City lifted the trophy at the Grand Final of the Selco Masters Cup, the world’s greatest indoor football series – sponsored by Selco Builders Warehouse.
Birmingham, comprised of veteran players like Paul Devlin and Geoff Horsfield, took the title after beating Tranmere in a penalty shootout after a thrilling 3-3 draw, to be crowned the 2010 Selco Masters Champions.
Taking place at the LG Arena in Selco’s home town of Birmingham on Sunday, the final saw eight teams made up of ex-professional players from around the world go head-to-head, battling it out to become Selco Masters Cup Champions.
Chris Cunliffe, operations director at Selco, said: “The whole evening was packed with goals and the crowd had a great time.
“The final was a blinding game. Blues keeper Kevin Dearden had Birmingham fans on the edge of their seats when he let a long ball bounce into the back of the net, but he more than made up for it in the penalty shootout by making some great saves.
“Although Birmingham won Tranmere deserve a lot of praise because they played fantastically and took it to the wire.
“On behalf of Selco, I’d like to congratulate Birmingham City, the 2010 Selco Masters Cup Champions. Hopefully the old boys’ success will spur on Alex McLeish’s young guns this season!”
