LEICESTER: EDI trading documents invoices and credits received electronically from suppliers by NMBS has surpassed 90% for the first time in August 2010. That means over 80 000 electronic invoices and credits are received each month.

Has the building industry finally realised that e-commerce is the only way forward for cost-effective document transfe," asked managing director Chris Hayward. "Or, is this result just something positive to arise from the credit crunch, as all businesses look to reduce their operating costs wherever possible?"

NMBS' new target is set at 92% by Christmas 2010, which the Society believes is "very achievable" as the last of its 400 plus suppliers sign up for electronic trading.

"NMBS has always been at the forefront of promoting the adoption of EDI and we are proud to have achieved this major milestone," said Mr Hayward. "We would like to thank all of our suppliers for their commitment in helping us towards our ultimate goal of receiving all our invoices and credits in this way."
