LEAMINGTON SPA: Plumb Center has welcomed the green agenda set out by Energy Secretary Chris Huhne.

Mr Huhne, speaking at the Liberal Democrat party conference in Liverpool, outlined a "once-and-for-all refit that will make every home in Britain ready for a low-carbon future". It was, he said, "the most ambitious energy-saving plan ever put forward" and its implementation would begin before the end of the year. It would cut carbon emissions and create 250 000 new green jobs.

He also emphasised the importance of renewable technologies going forward saying, "there is huge potential too for other renewables: energy from waste, wave, tidal power, and solar. Much of this will be local as it is in Germany."

Keith Jones, managing director of Plumb Center said: "Saving energy and renewable technologies are vitally important, not just for the future of our planet but also to our industry, and we welcome the coalition's green agenda.

"We believe businesses such as Plumb Center have an essential role to play in the provision of energy-saving technologies such as solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, air and groundsource heat pumps and carbon neutral technology such as biomass boilers. We also realise the importance of educating installers and in turn helping them to educate the homeowner, all of which has to happen if we are to cut 30% carbon emissions by 2020.

"We are ready and able to play that role and already have in place award winning schemes such as SolarReady and branches with working displays of renewable technologies showcasing the latest and most innovative products.

We are also looking at the provision of renewables training, supporting our customers to become MCS accredited and ways in which we can help our customers to educate homeowners about the benefits of renewables."
