YORK: MKM Building Supplies in Kettlestring Lane, Clifton Moor, is hosting a 'Brickie's Challenge' to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity.

Bricklayer, Nigel Goodwin, 47, has challenged five fellow tradesmen to see who can lay the most bricks in 24 hours to raise money for the charity for wounded soldiers.

Starting at 10am on Saturday, the six men will lay bricks non-stop, even working through the night, to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Mr Goodwin said: "In 24 hours I'm looking at in excess of 2000 bricks. I'll stop for a red bull, or something, but that's it. My mum's worried about me sleeping, but I think the cause will keep me going.

"I go home on a night and turn the news on and feel sick looking at what is happening in Afghanistan. They are our lads out there and they are being blown apart. This is a way I can help."
