CAMBRIDGE: Timber and builders merchants Ridgeons is to sponsor one of the highlights of the Cambridge cultural calendar – the Big Weekend – as part of its centenary celebrations.

The event, which will be renamed Ridgeons Centenary Big Weekend this year, is being held from Friday 8 July to Sunday, 10 July on Parker's Piece.

It will include a traditional Edwardian-style circus - to mark the fact that Ridgeons started up during the Edwardian era, along with Victorian/Edwardian fair rides, brass band performances and horse and cart rides.

Anne Ridgeon said: "We are delighted to be the main sponsor of this traditional and popular public event in Cambridge."

Cambridge city councillor Rod Cantrill said: "The Big Weekend is a key event in the city's cultural calendar, when all elements of the community come together.

"It is great that this year we have an opportunity to work with Ridgeons to deliver a special Big Weekend."
