DUBLIN: A 10-outlet family-owned builders' merchant, reported a 385 000 euro loss for 2008.

Pre-tax profit for Dublin Providers the previous year was 2.3m euros.

Turnover fell to 78m from 98m euros in 2007, as the slowdown in the building market intensified.

The directors said results for 2008 were "influenced by the decline in activity in the new residential market during the year... partially offset by the continued growth in the repair, maintenance and DIY markets".

The 20% fall in turnover compares with the 30% turnover drop reported by Irish market leader, Grafton last week (BMN Web News Friday 3 July).
