CAMBRIDGESHIRE: The Ridgeon Group has joined forces with ACT, the charity for Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals, to celebrate the timber and builders' merchants' 100th birthday with a full schedule of fundraising activities throughout 2011.
The creative money-raising activities have been planned to involve Ridgeons' employees in a light-hearted 1911 styled dressing-up competition, 'It's a Knock Out' challenge at The Big Weekend in Cambridge, and pantomime performance; while branch customers will be invited to beat the clock in a building skills challenge, splash out on raffle tickets, and donate by eating a hearty builders' breakfast.
A liveried horse and dray will also visit Ridgeons' branches, schools and events around the region, attracting attention and raising money for ACT.
All funds raised during the year will go towards three key ACT projects: a new Da Vinci robot for keyhole surgery, life-saving volumetric pumps for the children's ward and a breast cancer specimen X-ray machine for the Cambridge Breast Unit.
Anne Ridgeon, chairman of the Ridgeons Group, said: "This is a very special year for the business and we'll be celebrating all of the hard work and good fortune of 100 years.
"Dating back to 1766, Addenbrooke's has been around a lot longer than Ridgeons, and the Trust delivers life-saving projects which benefit all of us, directly or indirectly. What better way for Ridgeons to celebrate its Birthday than through supporting such an important and valuable cause," she commented.
