SURREY: Global building solutions company, Cemex, has appointed Jesus Gonzalez as its new UK president with immediate effect.

Mr Gonzalez will be based at the company's UK headquarters at Thorpe in Surrey. He replaces Gonzalo Galindo who has taken up a new position as regional president for Cemex USA East.

Mr Gonzalez comes to the UK from Panama, where he was president for Cemex in Central America, covering operations in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Panama.

He joined Cemex in 1998, following six years with McKinsey & Company, the global management consulting firm.

Within Cemex he has held a number of different leadership roles, including corporate director of strategic planning in Mexico, vice president of strategic planning in the US and, his previous role in Cemex Central American operations.

In the UK, he will be responsible for a business that generates over £1bn in annual sales, and has leading positions in aggregates, cement and ready-mixed concrete.

Cemex UK also produces asphalt, has a significant share of the concrete products sector and employs approximately 4000 people across a network of over 400 locations.
