EXETER: Travellers have occupied part of a Jewson-leased site on the Sowton Industrial Estate.

Travellers have occupied sites owned by the Environment Agency on the Marsh Barton trading estate in the city in the past. They have also been moved from Winslade Park at Clyst St Mary and from near new homes just off Topsham Road.

Jewson has confirmed that it is aware of the presence of travellers on land adjacent to its Exeter branch at Kestrel Way on the Sowton Industrial Estate. The company says that it is currently investigating the situation and will explore all the options in order to ensure that the situation can be resolved efficiently and amicably.

Travellers have previously claimed that they have little choice but to occupy land without consent because there is nowhere else for them to go in the city.
