GREATER LONDON: A builders' merchant marked the opening of its latest branch by throwing its support behind the Lavender Trust.  The opening in Catford has created 50 new jobs,

Selco Builders Warehouse was proud to present the Mayor of Lewisham’s chosen charity with a cheque for £2000. The Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care raises money specifically to fund information and support for younger women with breast cancer.

Councillor Alan Smith, the deputy mayor of Lewisham, officially opened the branch on Bromley Road (A21) in Catford, which began supplying the building trade with materials, on Monday 9 May.

Chris Cunliffe, Selco’s chief operating officer, said: “This is the 29th Selco branch to open, and we chose the location because it was so close to all the main commuter links in the area and it’s where our customers wanted us to be following their feedback. Tradesmen in the region are really pleased with the convenience that we offer and will help give them and their customers an improved service.”

“Catford is our 14th Selco branch now trading inside the M25. We’ve also recently opened in Sidcup and Romford. We’ve made a major investment in the site, including over £1m worth of stock in the 37 500sqft warehouse and have initially created 50 jobs ranging from till operators and sales staff to lorry drivers.”

Ross Sandy, Catford branch general manager, said that the launch had been a big success, with record numbers of customers visiting the store on the opening day alone and even higher numbers since. “We wanted to support the local community from the off, and what better way than to choose a great organisation like the Lavender Trust. Selco was formed as a family business so charities are very much a part of the company’s offering to communities. Selco also support the NSPCC,” he said.

Selco in Catford is close to the A205 South Circular, stocks over 15 000 trade product lines, is open seven days a week and offers a unique service for tradesmen and businesses for all their building material requirements.
