LEAMINGTON SPA: Wolseley's chief executive Ian Meakins said the sale of Electric Center and Build Center will be "the last two significant ones the group will make".

He commented that although the businesses were decent, they were "nowhere as strong as other brands we have in our portfolio". Build Center, he stated, was number four in its market and Wolseley calculated that it would be better off investing in bigger brands.

The national merchant will now focus on brands where it is number one or two in the marketplace, Mr Meakins added.

Wolseley will seek to boost organic sales from its Bathstore chain in the UK and its Ferguson brand in the US.
