LONDON: Plumbase is supporting the next generation of plumbers and heating engineers by supporting a global skills event in October.

The plumbing and heating merchant is a sponsor of the WorldSkills London 2011 competition.

Held over four days from 5-8 October at ExCeL London, WorldSkills will welcome over 1000 of the most skilled young people from around the world to compete in 46 different skills, including a plumbing and heating contest.

The event includes an exhibition of 200 stands at which Plumbase is represented. The Make It Happen exhibition provides visitors to talk to potential employers about job opportunities and the skills they are looking for. Training advice to help young people prepare for their chosen career will also be on hand.

The last WorldSkills competition was held in the UK over two decades ago so this is a once in generation opportunity to take part in a celebration of trade skills,” says Andy Gribble, managing director, Plumbase. “We are very proud to be part of an event that recognises skills at the very highest level.

“As a plumbers merchant we wanted to give our backing to WorldSkills because it highlights the importance of training. To learn a skill is to invest in a rewarding career. From an industry perspective it maintains standards and competence. It’s our way of giving something back to our industry and our customers.”
