NORTHAMPTON: Ian Church, the managing director of Travis Perkins' Midlands region, has moved into the role of managing director of PTS.

The move will fill the role formerly occupied by Kelvin Stevens, who stepped down in July.

Mr Church has worked for TP since 1980 at every level of the business. He was appointed MD of the Midlands region in 2004.

Known as a business builder, Mr Church grew this side of the company's business into one that now has a turnover of £290m. He was also responsible for developing a strong plumbing and heating section.

In his new role, he will be able to drive the links that are required to enable the business to exploit opportunities from the wider group in both IT and supply chain.

Joe Mescall, TP's divisional chairman – general merchanting, will assume responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Midlands business until a successor can be appointed.

Kelvin Stevens worked for BSS Group for over 14 years. He began his career at PTS Plumbing Trade Supplies as regional director before moving on to lead F&P Wholesale.

After returning to PTS as managing director Mr Stevens is said to have achieved "sector-leading performance and a track record of profitable growth".

Among his many achievements for the company he will be remembered for securing PTS' largest ever contract with British Gas. "He has left the business in a stable and strong position," said TP.
