AVON: Bristol-based Kellaway Building Supplies will be putting on a special trade day on 28 October "to boost the building industry and bring some autumn cheer to builders in the region".

From 11am to 8pm, the Total Trade Event at Brunel's Old Station in Temple Meads, promises to offer a range of exclusive deals from more than 45 suppliers providing discounts on blocks, paint, cement, plasterboard, plaster, tools, timber and more.

"These offers will only be available on the day of the event, so if our customers take time to come along, we'll make it worth their while," said sales development and marketing manager, Chris Parker. The day will include free parking and food, he added.

"We were tired of the negativity surrounding the state of the economy so we decided to get together with our suppliers to try to give the industry a kick-start," he said.

"It's rare for a local merchant to host an event like this and we think that the offers and information we'll be providing will give local builders a head-start in the challenging economic climate."

The event will also give builders the opportunity to talk to Local Authority Building Control which will be offering free bite-sized Building Regulations updates. Eco-organisation Bristol Green Doors will provide information on domestic retrofitting and how to make buildings more energy-efficient for builders' customers.

"As it's half-term next week, kids are more than welcome," said Mr Parker. "They can meet the players from Bristol Rugby who will be popping in throughout the day along with Simon Stead, Swindon's speedway champion.

"The team from Bloodhound SSC will also be on hand with their supersonic simulator so our customers can experience what it's like trying to keep a car in a straight line at 1000 miles an hour."

Kellaway has customers attending from all eight of its branches throughout the West, "but you don't have to be an account holder to come along," Mr Parker stated.
