BANBURY: Two high profile merchants are joining Cemco on 1 January 2012 – Plumbstore (plumbing and heating supplies) of Scotland and Norman Piette timber and builders' merchants of Guernsey.

Plumbstore is Scotland's largest independent plumbing and heating supplies merchant with its head office in Glasgow and a further 11 branches throughout the region. The company has a turnover of £17m.

All branches are lightside, concentrating on heating, plumbing and sanitaryware and will significantly assist Cemco's strategy of strengthening its lightside portfolio of members. "The company is positioned strategically with ongoing expansion plans and are committed to moving the purchasing power over to the Cemco supplier agreements," said Andrew Nicholls,Cemco director, executive board.

Plumbstore director Fred Stevenson, said: "Joining a progressive organisation like Cemco, even at this early stage, has shown itself to be extremely well organised and proactive and gives us the opportunity to prosper next year in a very difficult marketplace. It is exciting and we look forward to doing our bit to make Cemco even stronger in the years to come".

Norman Piette is not only the largest builders' merchant in Guernsey but one of the oldest in the British Isles being formed back in 1739.

"Records exist which show that English oak sawn in Guernsey was supplied to the admiralty in the building of Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory," said Mr Nicholls.

"So, expansion by demand for housing, due to a broad socio-economic population expansion and acquisition makes it Guernsey's largest independent builders' merchant with a buying power of £13m," he added.

"We welcome them both into the Cemco organisation which has 33 companies and 155 branches."
