UK: Following an assessment by the British Standards Institute, United Merchants, UK’s largest merchant co-operative and leading clearing house for the trade industry, has been awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification.

“We are very proud to have achieved ISO 9001:2008. This certification confirms that Unimer has implemented a system to continuously monitor and improve on quality, something which is essential when delivering services to our merchants and suppliers,” said Suzanne Millward, marketing manager at Unimer, who has been managing the project. “We are particularly pleased as this certification has only been achieved by around 5% of UK businesses and this prestigious award is supported by the Government and recognised world-wide”.

Quality has always been a key objective for Unimer, and the company believes its strategies and existing processes are robust and driven to produce a quality service.

Ms Milward explained: “The time had come to review all our systems to ensure our processes have the stability to deliver to our strategic objectives. Firstly we addressed our Quality Management System, and we are now continuing to improve on our systems to achieve Environmental (ISO 14001:2004) and Health & Safety (OHSAS 18001) accreditations.

"Meeting the ISO 9001:2008 standards has confirmed that Unimer’s investment in infrastructure, people and training provides a continual and efficient service to all members and suppliers. This accreditation confirms our absolute commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.”
