ESSEX: Guest speaker at the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) December seminar, Dave Jordan, Ridgeons’ BREEAM qualified sustainability expert, delivered his perceptive presentation to a packed audience of contract managers, architects, chartered surveyors, engineers, lecturers and students.

Imparting inside and in-depth knowledge of government planned reductions in housing carbon emissions, amounting to 33% by 2050, through building regulation changes and the Code for Sustainable Homes, Mr Jordan highlighted key issues affecting sustainability and inspired lively feedback with a lengthy Q&A session.

Mr Jordan, group sustainability manager at Ridgeons Timber and Builders Merchants, said: “It is important for the industry to master these issues for them to capitalise on the opportunities, while avoiding the many potential pitfalls.”

“I was overwhelmed by the demand for information and the range of questions asked by delegates at the seminar. This is just the tip of the iceberg and this presentation was one of many that I hope to be able to deliver across the region, helping to ensure that the industry is well prepared.”

Marcel Cooper, chair of the CIOB East of England Branch said: “Attendance for this December seminar well exceeded expectations demonstrating a significant thirst for practical advice, guidance and knowledge within the construction industry. In taking this proactive approach of supporting and informing construction professionals, Ridgeons is again demonstrating exceptional foresight and perspicacity. It is no surprise that this event received uniformly positive feedback.”

Mr Jordan distributed free copies of Ridgeons’ new Green Light Brochure, a definitive guide to the Code for Sustainable Homes and Modern Methods of Construction to those attending. This brochure, designed as a comprehensive but highly practical source of information for building professionals, was extremely popular and many delegates also subscribed for future free up-dates and information.
