LEYLAND: Through a collaborative approach with Sika, C&W Berry has repeatedly increased figures year-on-year despite the impact of the recession.

C&W Berry is based in Leyland. The merchant has a 27-acre site and employs 200 people. It has been stocking Sika products for 15 years. Then, four years ago, it increased its product offering and witnessed a significant improvement in sales figures.

Gary Clitheroe, purchasing manager at C&W Berry oversees the relationship with Sika: “Even though we’ve had the recession and the fact the market still remains quite flat, our sales have increased from £101 000 in 2009 to £113 000 forecasted for this year.

"Taking the difficulties of the last few years into account, these are strong figures and without the recession, I think we could easily say the figures would be even more significant.

“There has been an increasing number of DIY-ers and jobbing builders buying Sika products, whereas before, they would have been the sole domain of the professional. I think this is because people want to save money and decided to have a go themselves instead of paying for a professional,” Mr Clitheroe added.
